                                         New DAWN Star Student

I am proud to award the “Star Student” to Carolina Guzman, a fourth grade
student from Ligonier Elementary who attends New DAWN.

Some of the reasons Carolina was selected for this award include her perfect
attendance, excellent academic work and the positive attitude she brings to
the classroom.  Carolina always completes her homework and reading each
evening.  She is a great role model for other students.

Her willingness to help her teachers and fellow students, as well as Carolina’s
positive attitude results in a classroom where she is liked by both teachers
and students.  It has been a pleasure to work with Carolina this year and
watch her develop into a fine young girl who will surely be successful in all
she attempts.  Congratulations to a well deserved “Star Student”.

NCLC Star Student

The NCLC Star Student for this month is Jutta Wireman.  Jutta is a woman that
attends every week in a consistent manner.  She is constantly striving to do her best
and demonstrates to us what a Star Student is all about.

Jutta has always been a hard worker.  She worked at the same job for 32 years and
after the company closed, she evaluated what was next in her life.  The next step for
her was to earn her GED.

Jutta works towards her GED a minimum of 12 hours a week.  She is never afraid to
ask questions in order to try and get a deeper understanding of the material.  The
tutors enjoy her outgoing personality and dedication.  She also has a talent that she
keeps fairly well hidden.  She is a fabulous poet!  She writes her own material and
brings them in occasionally to share with her tutors.  They are always thoroughly
impressed with the depth of her emotion and the way in which she expresses herself.

Jutta, thank you for your perseverance!  We wish you the best in the future and can’
t wait to celebrate with you when you earn your GED.  You are always a pleasure to
work with and you show us the meaning of hard work.

Even Start Students of the Month

Christy Compton and her daughter Tayla have earned recognition as a Star
Student in the Even Start Family Learning Program at South Side Elementary
School. Christy began working toward her GED in early October of 2004. Although
Christy has a very busy schedule outside of school, she remains focused on her
studies.

Christy has improved in all areas of study and her reading and math skills have
advanced multiple grade levels. Her daughter, Tayla, has also shown improved
letter recognition and pre-reading skills in the preschool classroom. The Even
Start staff congratulates them for their accomplishments.

New DAWN Saturday GED Star Student

LEAP is proud to announce Sheila Owens as our Star Student.  Sheila has
attended New Dawn GED classes since January 2004.  She recently took the GED
test at Goshen and we are eagerly awaiting test results.  After passing the GED,
Sheila plans to further her education.  Her next goal is to attend college and
become a dental hygienist.

New Dawn GED instructor, Sarah Wilson, described Sheila as, “One of the most
dedicated students I have ever known.  Sheila never gave up, even when
something really challenged her.  Sheila has great obtainable goals and the
determination to succeed with them.”    It is these attributes that LEAP of Noble
County strives to help all of our students attain.

Sheila currently lives in Ligonier with her husband Larry, son Gaige, and daughter
Jessa.  One of her main reasons for getting her GED is to become a better role
model for her children.  She enjoys scrap booking and stamping in her spare time
and is a Stampin’ Up demonstrator.  Congratulations to Sheila Owens for earning
the right to be called LEAP’s Star Student!  Our best wishes to you and your family
today and in the future.
